Adult Martial Arts

Karate West curriculum for adults is quite demanding, though it is taught in a gradual progression which allows anyone to be able to be successful if he/she desires to and applies the effort to do so. Belt progression requires and enables the student to become a well-rounded martial artist, developing skills in the art, sport, and self-defense aspects. Each student learns his/her own strengths and weaknesses, and may eventually specialize, but must first develop a solid base in each aspect. Our students are encouraged to be life-long learners who also enjoy sharing their learning with others, and using their skills for good. Most students attend 2 classes per week, each one hour long.
Non-curriculum classes for teens/adults:
Fitness kick-boxing classes are offered a number of times in the week. Students may attend one or more times per week. There is no rank progression in this program. The classes are an excellent full-body work-out, done with music. Each of these classes does martial arts motions in the air and into targets, sometimes using partners with hand targets, and sometimes striking the Wavemaster standing bags.

Our Muay-Thai/boxing class is also a fitness class; it is a more technical class, designed for more advanced martial artists with greater experience.
Karate West Grappling class works on basic Jiu-Jitsu skills. This class is grappling for karate practitioners, not a stand-alone grappling class with rank advancement. Mr. Yee is a 2nd degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as a 7th degree blackbelt in Tae Kwon Do. He loves to do the Jiu-Jitsu along with the kicking and punching and encourages others to broaden their base to include some ground work; but Jiu-Jitsu at Karate West is an added plus we offer, not the main thrust of our program.
